Sorry for the lack of posts recently! I’ve been hard at work trying to get the NEW TEN ready for the public.
I’ve also been busy preparing for Golden Apple’s first-ever digital storytelling seminar, which I’m teaching alongside Golden Apple Fellow and award-winning storyteller (and my dad), Syd Lieberman.

Sarah,
The Digital Storytelling class was amazing. Thank you for your hard work in putting it together and your amazing patience working with us all.
I think the part of this course that had the most impact on me was the spotlight put on the storytelling portion of the seminar. Under our time constraints, several people were not able to find the visuals they wanted for their iMovie. However, because all of the stories were so beautifully written and told, it didn’t matter.
I think all too often, students will jump into the bells and whistles a new technology, without putting as much effort into the content. However, there was storytelling long before there was any digital media and when using this exciting new format, we must remember its roots.
I am excited to tell stories in my class this year and then to make them digital. Apple’s imovie is a fantastic program, but my school’s lab is PC. What exactly will teachers need to make digital stories if they have PC labs?

Hello,
I stumbled upon you all and I’m glad to find you. I am an English teacher and a Curricular Tech Consultant at Downers Grove South High School. Four years ago I took the DST workshop in Berkeley with Joe Lambert. Since then I have intergrated DST in my classes, and have conducted workshops in the Chicago area. I am glad to see there are others who distinguish between Digital Storytelling and “Digital Spectacle.” It’s all about the story.
As far as software for pc’s, we use Photo Story 3, which is a free download from Microsoft. It is powerful, easy to use, and unlike MovieMaker, has two soundtracks.
I will be at Tech Forum in NY presenting “DST 2.0” with Dave Jakes next week, and will be doing “Advanced Thinking in DST” in Springfield at IETC in November. Nice to meet you all, and I hope to hear from you soon!
